Nina's story
Nina is a beauitful 7-year-old black and tan dachshund (14 pounds) with a typical dachshund personality

sweet and silly with a dash of spicy. Almost Home Dachshund Rescue, a 5013c organization is looking for her forever home.
She loves children and is gentle even with infants and toddlers. Nina gets along great with the cat at her foster home and desperately wants to be their friend

much to the cats chagrin. She enjoys her dog friends

both large and small, but really loves to be with her humans most of all. Nina climbs into your lap and snuggles while you rub her head until she falls asleep. But when its playtime

Nina is all in and ready to go. She loves to run, play with toys and go for walks.
She is house-trained

even sits at the door when she needs to go outside. And even better, Nina does her business quickly without endless upon endless sniffing for the right spot. Not to mention that Nina is the rare (if not only) dachshund that we have met that will even do her business in the rain, snow or cold.
Nina was surrendered to us because her owner (with 5 young children at home she could not afford to take Nina to the vet) to receive treatment for the large mass on her stomach. Nina was dearly loved by her family and was surrendered out of love so she could get the care she needed to live a long happy life. Our vet diagnosed the growth as a inguinal hernia from being hit by a car many years ago that had pushed through her abdominal wall and now contained her spleen, intestines, bladder, uterus and colon. Thanks to many kind supporters, we raised $3,000 to have Ninas hernia repaired and her organs put back into her abdomen. Ninas surgery was very successful and she has fully recovered with no special care required. While her new family will need carefully monitor Nina with regular vet care to ensure her hernia remains closed, there is a good chance that Nina will live the rest of her life without any complications from her hernia. We are happy to provide vet records and the post opp report to any family considering adopting her.
Everyone who has met Nina on her surgery has been touched by her spirit

even with a grapefruit sized mass on her stomach, she didnt let it stop her

running around the yard, jumping on the couch for her afternoon nap and playing with other dogs. In true dachshund fashion, Nina even showed her salty side by barking at a dog five times her size as she walked into the surgery center. Now that Nina is fully recovered, we are seeing more and more of her dachshund personality shining through.
Unlike many dachshunds, Nina wants to please her people all of the time. If she's underfoot, you can simply tell her to go lie down and she curls up in her favorite blanket. And if she's getting into something she shouldn't (even food), a quick reminder and Nina gets back on her best behavior.
Nina is spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccines. She is getting a dental done this week and will be ready to go to her new home shortly. She will only be adopted to homes in the greater Raleigh-Durham or Greensboro/Triad area. If you are interested in Nina, PM Jennifer for more information or fill out an application on
Adoption fee: $250
