Susie's story
Susie is a 4-year-old dachshund/beagle mix, weighing in at 16 pounds, that is one of the sweetest and most loving dogs you will ever meet. She was found as a stray and landed in a county shelter. She got a huge smile of relief on her face when she walked into her foster home after leaving the shelter. And a short time later, her foster mom found her snuggled up in a dog bed, sleeping soundly likely for the first time in five days.
Give Susie a toy or ball and she is all in

this pup loves to play. Her energy is only second to her loving nature. And wants nothing more to snuggle with her person and get lots of attention. A lap or a sofa

shes not picky

just wants to be near you and love you. With her gentle nature, she is fabulous with children

even babies

and adores the attention. This girl takes her naps as seriously as her playtime

especially if she can sleep as close to you as possible.
While she is housetrained, she still has occasional accidents. Her new family should plan to continue working with her and keep her on a regular schedule. Susie gets along great with other dogs, but prefers to be in charge, so would probably do best without another alpha dog.
Because Susie has double Luxating patella, which means her kneecaps slip out when she walk, which often causes her to limp. She would do best in a home with limited stairs or a family willing to add ramps to make it easier for her to get up on the couch and the big bed

one of her favorite spots to hang out.
She is heartworm negative, spayed and UTD on shots. Preference will be given to adopters in the greater Greensboro and greater Raleigh-Durham area. Out-of-area adoptions will be considered if her new family is willing to drive to her foster home. Susie will not be put on a transport.
